XIV International Scientific Conference “Church – Science – Society: Interaction Issues” Began Its Work
The XIV International Scientific Conference “Church – Science – Society: Interaction Issues” opened on May 25, 2016. The conference is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Preserve.
The welcome speech was given by the Deputy General Director of the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Museum for Scientific Work, S. Pyvovarov, the Preserve History and Archaeology Research Head K. Krainii, representative of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary – the archpriest professor S. Yushchyk, and the Director of the Kyiv Centre of Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, M. Sahaidak.
S. Pyvovarov said that the conference is one more opportunity to highlight the close relationship between faith and reason, as the church and science constitute the spiritual and ideological basis for our society. The thematic focus of the conference covered a number of current issues related both to the history of church, and to historiographical, methodological and source studying problems of research of church history, archaeological research of ecclesiastical antiquities, and studios for the study of art. The conference is a bright example of fruitful cooperation between scientists from different areas, different confessions and different beliefs. S. Pyvovarov said that one of the criteria of importance of the scientific forum is the number of scientific reports announced on issues of various chronology and themes.
S. Yushchyk read out a congratulatory address on behalf of the President of the Kyivan Theological Academy and Seminary, the Metropolitan Anton of Boryspil and Brovary. In his address, Metropolitan Anton defined the conference as a scientific platform for well-known experts to work and exchange experience in the field of history, archaeology, study of sources and archaeography. He paid particular attention to the creative interaction and cooperation between the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Preserve and the Kyivan Theological Academy and Seminary. Numerous research and educational projects were implemented as part of cooperation. Metropolitan Anton of Boryspil and Brovary wished the participants and organizers of the scientific forum blessed success in their study and preservation of our spiritual and cultural heritage.
S. Yushchyk noted that science aimed at preserving and culture as well as preservation of that gained by previous generations is also a kind of virtue.
M. Sahaidak expressed his hope that the conference would be a factor in the formation of a special world vision by guests and participants, and the sun over Ukraine would shine even brighter.
S. Pyvovarov presented the Source Book of the XIV International Scientific Conference “Church – Science – Society: Interaction Issues” published thanks to the joint efforts of the Preserve Publishing Department and K. Krainii on the eve of the event.
A reminder that the conference will work until June 3, 2016. In particular, the on-site sections and round table meetings of the Scientific Forum will work from May 27 till June 3 in Vyshhorod, Chernihiv, and Oster.
